Looking Forward at the Harlow

Dear Members of the Harlow Community, Hallowell, and the Greater Kennebec Valley Art Association,

We hope this note finds you and yours healthy and enjoying the Maine summer, despite the challenges of the last few months. Though our doors have been open for a month now, we miss the faces and spirits of our regular gallery and studio happenings, including our Sunday evening figure drawing group, among many others. If you have not seen our summer exhibition of the 8 X 10, please come on in to see it.  You can also catch an upcoming "Paint the Summer Night Sky" children's art class via Zoom. Register here It will come to no one's surprise that the economic slowdown and the prolonged pandemic have seriously damaged the Harlow's income stream. We have made the painful but necessary decision to lay off the organization's staff. In addition, the building we lease has been foreclosed on, and we are working with the new owner to maintain our occupancy there.  The Harlow's Board of Directors is determined to emerge from these challenges stronger than ever with renewed structure and vision. We are very appreciative to those of you who have dropped us a check in the mail or sent us a hello in one way or another. We are also very appreciative to the City of Hallowell for its continued support. Thank you! If you would like to make a gift, you can do so online here.  Over the next few months, we will be raising money, closely watching our expenses, offering new programs, and most importantly restructuring the organization so that we might become stronger through this challenging time and fulfill the mission of The Harlow with renewed vigor for many years to come. If you are interested in serving on our advisory committee or volunteering to gallery sit, please reach out to me at Please be on the lookout for upcoming events that will help us keep going in upcoming months. Information will come via our new website and via email communications. With gratitude,  Helene Farrar Board President
